Maroon buckram cloth, gilt top-edge, decorative gilt front cover, gilt letters. Spine bumping & small frays, hd & ft, corners. Bottom edges are also worn in places. P.O.'s handwritten notes, in pencil, to fff & inside top of back board; occasionally made to text. All gilt is still bright. Pages 379 - 384 are have 1" tears to top edge, and the top corner of pg. 384 has been sliced open & then taped in place; that page is also marked by pencil "XXX's" (??). Pages 397 - 552 also have 1" - 1/12" tears to the top edge, probably from where the book has been dropped at some point & damaged. A few dog-ears are also noted, in places. The book is solidly bound, but 'shakes' due to its size. The front hinge was partially broken at top, but repaired. Minor blemishes to both boards (scrapes, shelf-wear). 1033 pages.
