G. P. Putnam's Sons, NY, 1935. 9 1/2" X 6 1/4" X 2". Second Edition - stated. Introduction by Secretary of the Navy Claude A. Swanson. Dedicated to Edsel Ford. Profusely illustrated w/ full-page B&W frontis of the author + numerous B&W photographs and a map of Antarctica. Gray cloth, dark blue letters. Spine bumping/rubs, hd & ft, corners. The front board has a number of faint lines/scratches on the cover, and the author's name has been lightly circled in pencil or ink (?) on the spine. [Methinks a child or grandchild may have 'decorated' the book.] P.O.'s name & address adorns the top inside corner of the front end-paper, with another P.O. signature on the back of the frontis - no other markings. Crisp white pages throughout. The list of Illustrations states that there are maps lining the end-papers, but there are none on this edition. Pages 401 - 405 & the next flyleaf contain a printing error, with extra un-trimmed corners sticking out of those pages. The book is still square & tightly bound, although it has a little sway due to its size, and the head has a slight separation. Both hinges are sound. 405 pages.
Subtitled: "The Story Of The Second Byrd Antarctic Expedition".
